See you at the Pole prayer event set for 7 a.m. Wednesday
The annual See You At The Pole prayer event is scheduled for tomorrow throughout the U.S. The event for Vinton-Shellburg students will take place Wednesday, Sept 25, at 7 am, at the High School Flag Pole.
Red Cedar Chapter of Izaak Walton League plans banquet, Oct. 26
It’s banquet time again!
The 9th annual fundraising banquet of the Izaak Walton League’s Red Cedar Chapter will be at the Vinton Country Club, 314 N 9th Avenue, Vinton, Iowa on Saturday, October 26. Doors open at 5 p.m. with dinner served at 7. Ticket price this year are $30.
The profits from this annual fund raising banquet are used exclusively within Benton County for projects and activities in the areas of conservation, outdoor ethics, education, outdoor recreational safety and natural resource appreciation.
Truth About Marijuana event set for Oct. 8, in Vinton
The Benton County Above the Influence Coalition presents "The Truth about Marijuana" featuring Dr. Christian Thurstone. The event takes place Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Tilford Elementary. Registration for this free event begins at 6:30 p.m.; the event at 7 p.m.
Dr. Thurstone is one of fewer than three dozen physicians in the United States who are board-certified in general, child and adolescent and addictions psychiatry.
Homecoming parade tonight; Hall of Fame induction Friday
The annual Vinton-Shellsburg Homecoming Parade takes place tonight. It begins at 6:30 p.m. near Farmers Bank. The route then leads along 4th Street to Second Avenue, then to the high school football field for the events there.

Isle of Iowa Head Club to raise money for E. Iowa Honor Flight, Oct. 12
“Party with a Purpose.” This pretty much describes Island Fever 2013, and the Isle of Iowa Parrot Head Club. This group is more than just a bunch of Jimmy Buffet fanatics and lovers of island music. They are a group of people with a deep commitment to the community,and a passion for helping those in need and supporting civic causes. Yes, they have a LOT of fun, but in the process they raise a LOT of money that gets given back to charitable organizations within the community:
Each year at the Island Fever, they designate a charity that the event proceeds are directed to.
Vinton Women's Club fall banquet set for Sept. 17
Vinton-Shellsburg Superintendent Mary Jo Hainstock will be the speaker during the Vinton Women's Club Fall Banquet fund-raiser. The event takes place Tuesday, Sept 17, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Dinner begins at 6 p.m. For DINNER Reservations call 319-472-2589 by Sept. 16. The public is welcome to attend the Dinner and/or Program.
Windsor Manor to celebrate National Assisted Living Week with tour
Windsor Manor at Vinton will celebrate National Assisted Living Week (September 8-14, 2013) by opening the doors of its communities, and the hearts of its staff and team members, as an invitation to seniors and their families to experience the positive changes that assisted living solutions provide, every day.
National Assisted Living Week is an opportunity for assisted living providers to speak to the challenges seniors face in adapting to daily life in the decades following retirement.
Vinton Parks and Recreation Golf Tournament set for Sept. 28
The Vinton Parks and Recreation Two-Person Best Shot Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, September 28th. This is an 18-hole tournament that costs $50.00 per team. This includes green fees, flight prizes, door prizes and stake prizes. Only the first 20 teams per tee time are guaranteed a spot. Tee times are 7:30 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. Each group will be a foursome to help speed up play.
